Buried, flexible, almost indestructible. HDPE pipes carry water and gas across cities and farms for 100 years.

HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene) pipes are the workhorse of buried water supply, gas distribution, industrial effluent and irrigation across India. Manufactured to IS 4984, they handle pressure, ground movement, chemical attack and freeze-thaw better than any other polymer pipe.

PE 80 vs PE 100

PE 80 — earlier generation. Used for low to medium pressure water and gas.

PE 100 — higher density and crystallinity. Allows thinner walls at the same pressure or higher pressure at the same wall. The current default for new infrastructure.

Pressure Classes (PN Rating)

PN 4, PN 6, PN 8, PN 10, PN 12.5, PN 16 — chosen based on operating pressure plus a safety margin.

Applications

City water supply mains.

Underground gas distribution to households and industry.

Industrial effluent and slurry transport.

Agricultural irrigation mains and sub-mains.

Mining slurry and dredging.

Butt Fusion & Electrofusion Joints

HDPE pipes are joined by heat fusion — the two pipe ends are heated, pressed together and form a joint stronger than the pipe itself. Electrofusion couplers are used in tight spaces or for repairs.

Why HDPE Lasts 100 Years

Buried HDPE is protected from UV, has no joints that can leak, and the polymer itself is inert to soil chemistry and groundwater. Independent studies project service life beyond 100 years.

What is the difference between PE 80 and PE 100 HDPE?

PE 100 is a higher-performance grade allowing thinner walls or higher pressure than PE 80 at the same wall thickness. PE 100 is the standard for new infrastructure projects.

Which IS standard covers HDPE pipes?

IS 4984 covers HDPE pipes for water supply in India. IS 14333 covers HDPE pipes for sewerage.

Can HDPE pipes be used for gas?

Yes. HDPE pipes (to IS 14885 / ISO 4437) are the standard material for underground gas distribution in India.
